Copeland
ASC started this competition in the mid 1990’s to complement the Bill and Monica Griffin Gala. The gala is open to swimmers of all abilities with a range of 'graded' events and some 'open' events.
The 'graded' events all have an 'Upper Limit Time' (ULT) and swimmers who have achieved a faster time than the ULT for a particular event cannot enter. The 'open' events do not have ULTs and all swimmers, including those who are too fast for the 'graded' events, can enter.
The 15th
Copeland Graded Gala will be held on Saturday October 23rd and has been licensed at Level 4 by the ASA North West Region. Although
a number of changes have been introduced this year, the competition continues
to offer a combination of ‘open’ and ‘graded’ events.
In the
‘Graded’ events, awards will be made to the top 6 places in each age group. Any
competitor who swims more than one second faster than the upper limit time will
be excluded from the awards but will be presented with a ‘Speeding Ticket’.
The Open
events are 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and 100m and 200m IM. In these events,
awards will be made to the 6 fastest swimmers regardless of age; no
‘Speeding Tickets’ are awarded in these events.
